OK. Someone very dear to me died today. I know this feeling. I have been here before. And yet again I decide: there is no logic in this discipline we call "life".
The guy who died was a good man, indeed. He used to keep quiet on just everything. He used to let people make their own choices and never commented their acts. That's why people used to love him. And that's why people used to entrust their secrets to him. Now that he's gone, the secrets are safe.
But on the second thought I wonder: is there any progress in keeping the secrets? Will you ever try and change anything by simply keeping the secrets? No way. So, here is the secret I've been hidding for 11 years...
I have been the initiator of student protest against Milosevic in Serbia in 1996/97. And I went to USA to attend the innauguration of Bill Clinton and to ask Capitol Hill for their helping hand in establishing democracy here in my Serbia. And I came all the way to The State Department. And I have talked to one republican senator who has been pretty engaged in Serbian issues at that time. And here is what he told me:
"OK, you ask for the help of US against Milosevic. Are you sure you should be seeking democracy here? You are at the wrong place, boy. If anyone told you we are fighting for the world democracy, he lied to you. We are fighting for our interests, for the oil and raw materials. We have to keep our spoiled citizens satisfied with full tanks in their cars and double cheeseburgers in their fat asses. And concerning your country... do you know what US will do to you? We'll take Kosovo from you as well as Sandzak and Vojvodina and you will beg us to stop. And what do you have to say on this my boy?"
I was shocked. I thought I was in candid camera. I always thought the US politics was the guild of good and honest people, the men of God - you know, just like the movies.
I asked the senator: "I can not believe that is your democracy... I am shocked... I will fight against your so called democracy..."
And he told me: "Welcome to the real world, boy. Go home now. And remember - there is no better patriot than Milosevic. He is your friend, not us (US)."
Now, I am not wondering what US are doing in Afghanistan, Iraq or what will they do in Iran. I am wondering what God thinks about it... and "in God we trust". Which one?
